Did you ever randomly click on the videos suggested to you on YouTube? That is how you find gems! You find yourself in a completely new world with different languages and cultures and all you can do is hope they have subtitles. Sometimes, though, you do not even need to understand what they are saying (with music that is often the case – you just feel it). More than great music to add to my playlists, I am always mesmerised by one of the simplest forms of seeing how different cultures think: TV commercials!
And that, my people, is why I would like to recommend some of the ads I have stumbled upon to you. Heart-touching, motivating or just very entertaining: these ads are not about selling something (well, yes, of course they are at their core) but they also carry messages of hope and spread joy. So, here’s a list that will make the corners of your lips turn up 🙂
I’ll only give you about five, though. There’s way too many good one’s out there.
Cadbury’s Eyebrow Ad
Just two young children waiting for their pictures to be taken and while the photographer is gone they show off their strong eyebrow game. I was never able to make a wave with my eyebrows. Heck, I can only lift my left eybrow, the right one does not do what I tell it. Woahhh. I just tried it a little too long and now my vision is blurry. Haha… Anyway. The music and the calm look on the faces of the children while dancing with their eyebrows just makes me happy. I saw this ad many years ago, but the fact that I never forgot it says how good it is. Now for those who do not know: What do you think they sell? That’s right. Chocolate. I love it, when an ad just leaves you with a feeling of what-the-hell-did-I-just-watch. Cadbury in general seems to have a great marketing team. My brother and I really like the gorilla ad as well. Enjoy watching:

Thai Ads That Tear Your Heart Out
I do not really know what to say about these two other than they make you feel like you’re watching a movie. The production level and story-telling is crazy. I cannot really tell you what they are about without spoiling to much. Let’s just say they definitely touch your heart.

Ads that feel like you’re watching J-Drama
I watched this once when I was younger and found it incredibly cute. If I remember correctly, it featured an over-size girl and a rather thin boy in school who seemed to like each other. The ad showed them throughout their school day taking notice of each other and (if I don’t mix anything up right now) there was even some dancing in the ad. Was the ad about some kind of cream or beauty product? I don’t recall. I wish I had the link to this one, but I cannot find it no matter what keywords I use to search for it.
Should I ever stumble upon it again, I will definitely share it with you here. (EDIT: Found it! “Hada Labo CM – Love yourself, love your skin”)
