Watching someone fall down a bunch of stairs aka John Wick 4

I had this in my drafts for so long and seeing how you can already preorder the dvd for it in my country, I thought I might as well post my review/thoughts on this one now (wrote this some time in April):

My brother dragged me to the cinema to see the fourth John Wick movie and I have to admit, I’m glad he made me watch it.

I’ve seen the ones before multiple times due to my brother being a huge fan of the franchise. However, the only thing I could remember before entering the cinema for this one was that John Wick is a man in a suit with immense love for dogs who appears to check in to a hotel quite often. My memory is bad, I’m aware of that… Fortunately, my brother could give me a quick rundown on all the important details I had to know before the movie started and now that I’m back home, I would love to share my thoughts on this one.

(Spoilers from here onward, beware! I’ll try to keep them down, though.)

Pretty View & Choice of Weapons. The cinematography in this one is just beautiful, so many scenes could serve as great screen wallpapers! Setting the final fight at sunset was a great idea for aesthetic purposes. I really wanted the last fight to be with swords instead of guns at first, but seeing how the fight turned out, I think guns were the better choice. (Sidenote: when they met at the table with all the cards in front of them to decide the details of the fight, I thought they were about to duel right there and then, Yu-Gi-Oh style). I mean they could have even used pencils, but guns are Mr. Wick’s go-to, right?

Favourite Scene. From all of the fight scenes in the movie (and there are plenty to choose from) I liked the fight on the stairs the most. Maybe because we saw the goal (the top of the stairs) right in front of him and time was running out. Also, it was just way too funny how he rolled down ALL of them. He was so close to the top, it should have been frustrating, but I just couldn’t help but laugh at that.

Plotwise, I could actually even follow, since my brother had told me all about the hotels and why people were after John Wick. Though, I cannot really judge whether the plot was better or not in comparison with the ones before. Personally, I liked this one the most – could be the recency effect though. I would have to watch 1-3 again to judge accurately.

Love for Mr. Pennywise & Dogs. Characterwise, I was an absolute fan of Marquis, mainly because he was played by Bill Skarsgård. I liked Tracker/Nobody (the one with the dog) at first, but when he started hunting John Wick as well I was kinda split. I adored the moment when Mr. Wick didn’t kill him just to save that dog. Out of curiosity: does the fandom feel deprived of John Wick x dog moments in this final one? Now that I think about it, the movie had a lot of likable characters. The only people who really pissed me off were the ones trying to kill John Wick before he could arrive at the final fight location.

In general, were you guys satisfied with the ending (I think this is the last one, judging from the final scene) of this franchise? Well, for me, it was almost 3 hours worth spent.

Let me know your thoughts, too, if you’re planning to see it anytime soon or have already seen it.

Wish you a nice day!

Yours,

Tanniyan
